Myplanet Hiring, Like, A Billion People

The last year has been one heck of a ride as Myplanet grew 300%. All of this means one thing: we need to get crazy about hiring. Crazy like foxes.

The last year has been one heck of a ride as Myplanet grew 300%, expanding our team to over a baker's dozen and prompting founder Jason Cottrell to remark laconically, "I bent my wookie."

Indeed, Mr. Cottrell. Indeed.

As 2011 ramps up, our new strategic vision is unfurling itself like the majestic tongue of an aardvark: our phones are ringing off the hook, we're taking on bigger and bigger challenges, and we're laying the groundwork for new internal projects that may, in time, become entirely new lines of business.

All of this means one thing: we need to get crazy about hiring. Crazy like foxes

To that end, we are hereby declaring the search for several new team members to be officially on, in addition to two recent hires we'll be announcing shortly. The positions we're hiring for are:

2x Slightly Crazy Web/Mobile Developers
2x Account Leads

(follow the links above for the full job postings)

You can apply to any of these positions by submitting your cover letter and resume to talent@myplanetdigital.com

We'll be bulking up our design team soon as well, so watch out for more announcements!

Slightly Crazy Web/Mobile Developer

Greater Toronto Area, Chicago

About us

We build web and mobile products for enterprise customers. Although we work across a variety of technical, design, and business disciplines, we are currently one of the top providers of enterprise products and services around the Drupal Social Publishing Platform. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, we have offices in Toronto, Chicago, and Hyderabad, India.

Working at Myplanet means constantly being challenged to learn and grow. From regular lunch & learns to training, free books, meditation, and more, never a dull day will there be. The Force is strong in this one.

We work with a variety of systems - we build advanced platforms on Drupal (we're one of the only Enterprise Drupal partners in Canada), we build things from scratch with PHP/CodeIgniter, we build apps with Objective-C, etc. If you want to learn how to build wicked stuff and want to start a company somewhere down the line, this is a great place to work. Hell, you're even encouraged to work on a potential startup on Awesome Days.

About You
A background in computer/software engineering or computer science is strongly preferred, but we're open if you can demonstrate you know your stuff and have a nonconventional degree. We're looking for 1-2yrs experience (if you're fresh out of school get in touch anyway). Double points if you have startup experience.

We mostly work in PHP, but diverse language experience is a plus. It's more important that you're smart and driven than that you're a PHP expert. If you've played around with iOS development, HTML5, Python, Ruby/Rails 3, Android dev, Facebook app dev, etc., those are all positives.

There are a few key attributes we’re looking for:

  • You’re a great communicator. We run on SCRUM, so almost all of our work is team-based. You need to be able to collaborate effectively both in person and in writing. Bonus points if you’re a blogger.
  • You’re #1 at something. Show us you know how to be great, whether it’s as a cyclist or professional hacky-sack enthusiast.
  • You get stuff done. You would rather just build it than debate it. You let your code do the talking.
  • You’re intense. You don’t stop until you get what you want. You have “the look”, described by some as “fire in the eyes” and by the less-informed as “bats#%t crazy”.
  • You’re crazy (like a fox!). If we do the same things as everyone else, we’ll get mediocre results. This position requires you to question every idea, test every assumption, and refactor like a demon.
  • You’re a prodigy. You’ve been building stuff since you were a wee lad/lass, and you can prove it.

About the position
You'll be tasked with building important systems for interesting clients, with plenty of technical challenges and opportunities to learn as you go. You'll work in a Scrum team, primarily in PHP to start - you'll also likely learn how to build complex systems in Drupal through our one month intensive training program with world re-known Drupal experts.

If you're a startup guy/gal, you'll learn a lot just by being in our environment. You'll collide with amazingly smart developers, designers, analysts, and business folk - all of whom are constantly formulating new business models and thinking radical thoughts about the future. Bonus points if you like to endlessly philosophize.

Perks

  • Full benefits (dental, worldwide travel coverage, massage, etc.)
  • Unlimited technical/professional books to keep you informed
  • Awesome Days, Geek Grants (take a full day every other week to work on something great, qualify for a Geek Grant and get even more time!)
  • Relocation (if you’re not in the GTA)
  • Conferences, training workshops, etc.
  • Weekly in-office Yoga sessions as part of our Health & Wellness Program.
  • All full-time hires will get equity for performance.
  • Free meals when you have to work late.
  • Forge your skills in the fire of a great work environment with a great team.

To apply, submit your cover letter and resume to talent@myplanetdigital.com with the subject heading "Developer."

Account Lead

Greater Toronto Area

Our phones have been ringing off the hook, and so it’s time for our client-facing team to grow. On any given day, we work on projects ranging from E-commerce, to launching startups for clients, to helping clients understand and plan for adoption of new interactive technologies. We are, in essence, one part technology specialist, one part interactive agency, and one part business savvy.

About you
A background in computer science/ software engineering is preferred. Double points if you also have a business background. We’re looking for at minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role (sales or account management).

We love entrepreneurs. If you’ve started a company before, come talk to us. If you plan on starting a company sometime in the future, come talk to us.

There are a few key attributes we’re looking for in this role:

  • You’re a great communicator. You’ll be dealing with clients by phone, by email, and in person.
  • You have a technical background. You need to be able to understand and convincingly talk about our business, as well as stay up to date with new technologies and trends.
  • You get stuff done.  We work with great clients, and they demand greatness in return. That means staying on top of leads, client requests, and concerns.
  • You’re easygoing and friendly. We all hate dealing with aggressive, pushy salespeople. The Myplanet way is like the Tao of Steve: never trying too hard to impress, but doing it anyway by way of intrinsic awesomeness.

About the role
As an Account Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Responding to time-sensitive leads via email, phone, and in-person meetings
  • Reaching out to existing clients to ensure their needs are met.
  • Crafting wicked proposals/pitches that will forcibly remove our clients’ socks
  • Writing and contributing to our thought leadership by way of witty puns and general showmanship.
  • Growing with your role as our company grows.
  • Teaching our team what you know and learning from them.

Perks

  • Full benefits (dental, worldwide travel coverage, massage, etc.)
  • Unlimited technical/professional books to keep you informed
  • 15% time (take time to work on something great)
  • Relocation (if you’re not in the GTA)
  • Conferences, training workshops, etc.
  • Weekly in-office Yoga sessions.
  • All full-time hires will get equity for performance.
  • Free meals when you have to work late.
  • Forge your skills in the fire of a great work environment with a great team.

To apply, submit your cover letter and resume to talent@myplanetdigital.com with the subject heading "Account Manager."

Thoughts?

Looks great, but the Client Guide position is not listed on the careers page :/

Sorry about that Alex - you're up and running now. Hope to see your application!

Sounds pretty interesting. Too bad they're not remote positions.

Thanks Chris - We've worked hard to ensure a fun, creative and productive office environment. Most of us used to work from home, and now love coming in. I'd encourage you to submit your application and meet us. :-)

Wow I love everything about this site and what you're doing. Plus I know three of you, so that's a plus! The Digital Marketer position sounds awesome, plus it includes "Extraordinaire" in the job title so that rocks. Does an HR background and an affinity for technology and social media qualify me at all?

Kirsten - I'd get your application in either way. We are hiring, like, a billion people and that includes more than just the roles advertised here. :-)
